  Inner Sunshine

  Planet Mu

  John Kowalski and Rian Trench, the two members of Planet Mu's new signing Polar Bear, met at the Pulse Sound Engineering School in Dublin, Ireland. This taster EP precedes their full-length album She Was Coloured In, to be released this fall. The pair's multi-faceted sound mixes the rich colors of hip-hop-inflected analog electronica and touches of the shimmering neon synths of late-'70s / early-'80s Kosmische music (Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulz, Popul Vuh).

  “It only takes one listen to Jee Day's "Like A Child" - and its whirling, hypnotic rush - to recognize the know-how that has made studio whiz Dennis "DJ" McNany a go-to source in New York City's dance music scene. Over the last decade, the sound architect has become a musical jack-of-all-trades: Fine tuning releases from outfits such as The Rapture and Turing Machine; working on early output from DFA Records; maintaining his own Run Roc label; remixing artists like Panthers, Ghostape and Digable Planet's Ladybug Mecca; and contributing keyboards and percussion on tour with The Juan Maclean.

  Man's Gin was born in Colorado when Cobalt multi-instrumentalist Erik Wunder and a friend took up their their acoustic guitars and a bottle of cheap liquor and began writing lonely tributes to the drink in which they were drowning their sorrows. The collaboration yielded a batch of home-recorded songs they called The Rum Demos, and circulated among their small circle of friends.

This time, main-brain Lars Finberg ditched his usual method of recording all the instruments himself and had his current touring band play on it--Susannah Welbourne, Beren Ekine Huett (Eat Skull) and Chris Woodhouse (Mayyors, FM Knives, Karate Party), who also served as the record's producer.

It's no wonder that The Knights of the New Crusade, with their resolute unconcern for compromise (Matthew 16:26), became a flashpoint for contention in both the Christian and secular rock music worlds.
